Redefining Home, Rebuilding Connection

At New Community Vision, we’re reimagining what “home” can mean. In a time when 37 million American adults live alone and both loneliness and housing insecurity are on the rise, we believe our current housing models fall short—especially when it comes to our fundamental need for connection.

Our mission is to create vibrant, supportive, and affordable co-living environments that are consistently clean, charming, well-managed, and built around shared values. These homes aren’t just about shelter—they’re about belonging.

Through our work, we offer people a pathway to companionship, stability, and a renewed sense of purpose. In return for shared contributions—like cooking, household upkeep, and emotional support—residents receive more than just a roof over their heads. They gain access to what we call a "communal balm": a stable, nurturing environment that promotes mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

But our vision doesn’t stop at housing. We’re also dedicated to revitalizing community spaces—like the neighborhood diner—that once served as the connective tissue of daily life. It can also double as a multipurpose space to hold our gatherings and bring the community together. Through real estate development and strategic partnerships, we’re building a model that can be replicated nationwide to breathe new life into communities impacted by disconnection, poverty, and climate change.

Our Roots: A Personal Story

New Community Vision was born from lived experience.

After the end of her marriage at age 50, founder Terry found herself navigating a new phase of life—one marked by loneliness, failed roommate situations, and the need for deeper connection.

Her upbringing in a rural Illinois community in the 50s and 60s had shown her what healthy interdependence looked like. Later, in the 1980s, she experienced the joy of co-living in a vintage Chicago six-flat with five other single women. The “secret sauce”? Casual, frequent gatherings.

Terry originally launched New Community Vision as a blog to promote home-sharing among people who like each other. Over 10 years, she explored how co-living could meet real societal needs—from supporting single parents to enabling aging in community—but lacked the resources to implement the vision in real-world housing.

Today, she’s taking a bold new direction: developing real estate to bring these ideas to life. Backed by a growing team of advisors and allies, her mission is now to build beautiful, functional co-living homes and community spaces—starting in the Evanston/Chicago area and expanding nationwide.

    • Loneliness is a public health issue. We offer a preventative, human-centered solution.

    • Housing is increasingly unaffordable. Our model provides financial relief and long-term stability.

    • Communities are fragmented. We're rebuilding the social fabric—one shared home and space at a time.

We believe housing should be more than functional. It should be life-affirming.

Looking Ahead

Terry envisions leading a “company of women” to develop real estate projects that blend heart and strategy. These projects will serve seniors, single parents, and anyone seeking a deeper sense of community. Our homes will be thoughtfully managed, ADA-accessible, and adaptable for aging in place.

We’re not in this to get rich—we’re in it to make a difference.

Let’s Build Something Beautiful Together

We’re building a movement—one home, one meal, one shared moment at a time. We invite you to connect with us, attend a gathering, or explore partnership opportunities. The need is real. The time is now.
